The Mix Tape

August 5, 2014

Fun fact Definition for those of us that didn’t know the exact, technical version of the word “ode”:

An ode is a lyrical stanza in praise of, or dedicated to someone or something which captures the poet’s interest or serves as an inspiration for the ode.

Instead of a single lyrical stanza, I wanted to compile a myriad of lyrical stanzas … in the form of a song, well, several songs … written by others, not me … for this particular “ode” … to my hubbs. =)

In short, I want to create a mix for the hubbs {aka, my bubbs as you will see I often call him around these parts and in real life}. But not just any mix. I had the urge to create a mix tape, as in cassette.

Do you remember making mix tapes? {For the love of Pete, please don’t date yourself, Ann!} I would buy a ten-pack of cassette tapes, pop one into the radio, and sit with my girlfriends with our fingers permanently planted on record + play, just waiting for first few notes of the song we requested hours ago.

The quick skip down memory lane jolted me back to reality. We don’t even have the technology to create a mix tape anymore. Big time bummer. AND once this seemingly impossible mix of nonexistence was created, how the hell was he going to enjoy it? He certainly isn’t carrying around a walkman clipped to his belt. {Although, honey, that would be hot.} His car doesn’t have a cassette player. So, this was becoming an even bigger distant dream. Heart, go ahead and start to sink. Womp womp.

But being the technology-driven girl that I’m forced to be, I decided to fast-forward myself to present day and created a Spotify playlist for this handsome devil.

Husband :: Playlist of Us

The list is a mash-up of all those feel-good memories. These tunes take the two of us back to the very beginning and bring us up to yesterday, literally. It’s truly magical how a song can tell a story. It’s your personal time traveling device to a certain place in time. And although I may not have that cassette recorder anymore, I think I may have found a solution.

J, hope you enjoy. xo

{Sorry, friends, I’m not a premium member yet. Please login to Spotify if you would like to enjoy the playlist!}

    I get so nostalgic anytime I hear the word “mixtape”. Yes, indeed, I remember those days waiting for THAT song to come on. Making a tape for each mood, each roadtrip, each boyfriend, every friendship. Those were the days.

    I love Spotify for the same reason. Although now digital, we can still have our modern day mixtape.

    Hope you are having a beautiful day! 🙂
