Smoothie Lovin’

May 10, 2014

During the week, mornings can be a challenge. In order to combat these blech feelings, my Mads and I have developed a nice routine – smoothie making! Not only do we have fun mixing and matching all sorts of fruits + veggies, but we give daddy a little bit of an early wake-up call. πŸ™‚ I’m pleasantly surprised that she’s into this as much as she is. I mean, she’s very honest with her opinions. And I just love hearing her say, “like this.” Melt my heart. Knock on wood, she hasn’t pushed one away yet, but she does have a few favorites.
Green Smoothie // Toddler Breakfast // Clean Eating

The first smoothie turns SUPER green because of the spinach but tastes just like strawberries and bananas. Party in my mouth. Here’s what we did –

//11 oz coconut water (you can also use tap water and it will still taste great)

// handful of spinach

// 5 large strawberries

// 2 bananas

I prep the spinach and strawberries at the beginning of the week because these suckers always seem to go bad by week’s end. So, I just put cut-up strawberries and spinach in freezer bags and toss them in the freezer until I’m ready. Green stays green. Strawberries taste like strawberries. This will also help keep everything super chilled during the “blending + drinking” process. Toss the coconut water, frozen spinach and strawberries, and bananas into the blender. Puree. Pour into Minnie Mouse cup {or whatever else you think would be suitable}, add straw, and enjoy!

Watermelon Smoothie // Toddler Breakfast // Clean Eating

Next up, we ushered in “summertime in a chilled glass.” Holy moly. I didn’t realize how much I missed watermelon until this came along!

// 5 oz coconut water (reduced this amount greatly because of the high water content in those watermelons! you can also use tap water)

// 1.5 C cut-up watermelon

// 1 C frozen mixed berries ( we had raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries.)

// .5 C ice

Pink + Yellow Smoothie // Toddler Breakfast // Clean Eating

Okay, so this … this smoothie was the ultimate winner. Obviously saving the best for last. A repeat for sure. But then again, all of these beauties are repeats.

// 11 oz coconut water (tap water works good too – however, orange juice would also work well!)

// 2 C mixed fruit: mango, peach, strawberry (freshΒ or frozen works. I used frozen.)

// 1 banana

// 1 Tbls honey

If you opt for the fresh fruit, I would recommend using .5C of ice. So delicious.

Hope you enjoyed! I would love to know if you have a favorite recipe or one you’re dying to try. We love ’em! The more the merrier!!

{Just a note – all measurements are not exact, just a friendly guess-timate. πŸ™‚ No real science here, just good food!}

Happy Weekend! xo.
