DIY Aluminum Can Pen Holder

June 4, 2014

I’ve been having mini love affairs with aluminum cans lately. I keep finding drinks with fantastic designs and artwork. I just want to keep them around for a bit. So, I tried to figure out a way to make that possible. And then it hit me – pen holder! Something quick, fun and doesn’t require anything extra (because who knows how long the one can will hang around before it’s time for another one!).

Step 01 // Select your can of choice.

Step 02 // Find a rough surface. I have a cement slab outside our basement door. I plopped down, turned the can upside down, placed my hand on top and started twisting. Twist, twist, twist. Twist some more. About five minutes.

Step 03 // After a few minutes, turn it back over and see if the inside of the lid is pulling away from the can. It will fall away to the inside of the can.

And there you have it! Aluminum pen can holder. Just something fun and silly.

If the ring at the top is a little rough, take some sandpaper (or an old nail file will also do the trick! stick to the cardboard ones) and gently rub it across the top to smooth it out.

Will you be making one soon?? Enjoy!! 🙂

My husband does this with PBR cans and will use them for multiple things.

I definitely can see how these would be good for quick storage! I’m glad/surprised the top of the can didn’t get sharp.
