Cast Iron Skillet Pizza!

Cast Iron Skillet Pizza | eat. sleep. market.Well, we were slammed with some {insert sarcastic tone here} awesome weather this weekend… More snow. More ice. To say I’m over with winter is an understatement. I need to constantly remind myself of how I felt in the most disgusting heat of the past two summers. Coming back to reality after that trip down memory lane isn’t so bad after all. However – still excited for spring.

With the impending weather looming over our heads this past weekend, I finally got to try a few fun things in the kitchen. 🙂 One would be this really neat pizza dish – cast iron skillet pizza. So amazing. The chewy yet crunchy crust reminds me of brick-oven pizza. And it was all done in the cast iron skillet! I urge you to try this! Everyone that tasted enjoyed.

Dough Recipe – this will yield two pizzas for a 8-10 inch skillet

1 packet active dry yeast

1 cup warm water

2 3/4 cup flour + a few extra tablespoons for rolling out dough

1 1/5 tsp salt

2 tsp sugar

Pizza Toppings

Sauce you love

Cheese you love

Veggies you love

Meat you love (if applicable)

First and foremost, put that package of active dry yeast in the 1 cup of warm water. Stir to dissolve completely. While that’s hanging out, mix the flour, salt and sugar together. When that is mixed, stir in the water/yeast mixture until combined. Divide the dough into two lumps.

Grab two bowls, lightly greased with a little bit of oil and place a dough lump in each bowl. Cover with plastic wrap. Put a kitchen towel over that. Leave it alone for about an hour. In that time, it should double in size.

When that’s growing to perfection, mix up your sauce, cook your meats, prep your veggies, and shred (and taste) your cheese.

Turn your oven to broil. Make sure your cast iron skillet is seasoned properly and is lightly oiled. When your dough is about ready, put that cast iron skillet in the broiler for about ten minutes – getting it nice and toasty for the dough.

Take one of the bowls with the dough and roll it out on a lightly floured surface. Once it’s rolled out to the desired thickness, pull out the cast iron skillet from the oven and carefully place the dough in the pan. Layer in all the desired goodness and pop it in the oven. Don’t leave! Watch it carefully, rotating it every minute or so. These cooked up in about 3 minutes!!

And there you have it – some pretty awesome, cheesy pizza. Hope you enjoy!
